Join the Society of Internationally Trained Engineers of British Columbia (SITE BC) for a seminar focused on Career Paths for ITEs in BC. Gavin Dew – Senior Specialist, Stakeholder Engagement & Communications, and, Mr. John Macleod – Lead, Engineering & Construction of Trans Mountain Expansion Project, from Kinder Morgan will introduce the $5.4B expansion of its current 1,150km Trans Mountain pipeline project. Also speaking at the event is Eduardo Saldana P.Eng., the Project Manager – Field Services of Alpha Technologies to introduce the Safety Standards in Canada.

John Macleod
Lead, Engineering & Construction
Trans Mountain Expansion Project, Kinder Morgan Canada

John is the team lead for engineering and construction of the proposed Trans Mountain Expansion Project. A member of the project’s core leadership team, John led the technical input for the Facilities Application to the National Energy Board (NEB) submitted on December 16, 2013. In his time with Kinder Morgan Canada, John also led the development of contracting and construction execution strategies for Trans Mountain’s Anchor Loop project through Jasper National Park and Mount Robson Provincial Park completed in 2008. The Anchor Loop project was granted the prestigious Emerald Award from the Alberta Emerald Foundation for its excellent environmental initiatives.

With more than 30 years experience in project engineering and construction management, John has worked on several international pipeline projects in countries that include Australia, Yemen, Argentina and more. John’s native language is Gaelic. In addition to English, he speaks Spanish and some Portuguese. John has coached minor soccer teams in Calgary for 15 years, and has enjoyed the privilege of watching a rising youth star named Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munich and Manchester United), playing against his team.

Gavin Dew
Senior Specialist, Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Trans Mountain Expansion Project, Kinder Morgan

Gavin Dew works with the Stakeholder Engagement and Communications group on Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Expansion Project, a proposed $5.4B twinning of an existing pipeline between Strathcona County, Alberta and Burnaby, British Columbia. Since early 2012, he has worked to build support for the project among civil society and the business community. Prior to beginning his work with Trans Mountain, Gavin completed a MBA at the University of Oxford, where he wrote a thesis on “social license to operate,” focusing on using public opinion research to understand how trust and legitimacy influence acceptance or rejection of major projects. Before his MBA, Gavin was a senior consultant at a leading communications agency known for its work on sustainability and environmental issues.

Eduardo Saldana
Certification Project Manager of Canadian Standards Association, Canada

Eduardo is currently working at Alpha Technologies, Canada as a Project Manager, Field Services. Before he migrated to Canada he worked at:

  • Incobar, Mexico as a Power Quality Engineer
  • LG Philips Displays, Mexico as a Manufacturing Manager
  • Nortel, Mexico as an Engineering Manager,
  • Lucent Technologies, Mexico as a TDMA-CDMA Test Engineer
