Robotics Team Places in Top 10

The BC Alliance for Manufacturing was proud to be a sponsor of the Clayton Heights Secondary robotics club. The team (Team 7135 “System Reset”) of budding engineers and technologists from Surrey came in 7th out of 35 teams in the regional competition held in Victoria.

“We are excited to encourage youth to explore skills and careers in high demand by BC’s manufacturing industries”, said Marcus Ewert-Johns, President of the BC Alliance. “Not only is this a great learning experience but it is also a lot of fun.”

The theme of the 2019 FIRST Robotics Competition was to build a robot that could deliver cargo on a lunar base through various challenges. With limited resources, and an intense six-week time limit, 854 teams of 18,000 students are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get while celebrating space, innovation and STEM inspiration.
